This training course has been designed to enable all staff members to have a basic understanding of fire awareness. It has been designed for all levels of staff that have the responsibility of working in a safety environment.

Course Unit Description:

The main areas that are covered within the programme of study include the following:

  • Fire precautions regulations and legislation
  • Chemistry of fire and how fire spreads
  • Common causes of fire
  • Protection characters within a building
  • Plan of action on discovering a fire
  • Calling the emergency services
  • Hazard identification & hazard diminution
  • The Health & Safety Notice boards
  • Evacuation procedures
  • Dealing with persons requiring special needs
  • Liaising with the emergency services
  • Weekly fire checks
  • Record keeping
  • Induction of staff members
  • Fire extinguishers, theory and practical skills

Whilst fire safety is everyone’s concern, the level of training required for individual staff members should reflect their responsibilities, whilst other staff should receive general fire safety training. The course is designed to fulfil statutory requirements and also equip individuals to provide general fire safety awareness training for staff.
